What Valrico houses need from a cleaner

Valrico sits inland, southwest of our home base in Plant City, and most of it is houses on streets that curve through oaks and pines. Some are older block ranch houses on bigger lots. Others are newer homes with an upstairs, built in planned subdivisions. Each kind gets dirty in its own way, so a good clean starts with knowing which house we are walking into.

A lot of the older ranch houses have tile floors, and the grout lines darken over the years as dirty mop water settles into them. Baseboards collect a gray film. Ceiling fans run most of the year here, and the top of each blade carries a thick coat of dust. Nobody sees it until the fan starts dropping that dust onto the bed below it.

The newer houses bring their own list. High ceilings and tall windows hold dust up where a quick wipe never reaches. Carpet on the stairs holds whatever gets tracked in from the yard. Valrico humidity leaves mildew in bathrooms

Valrico is far enough inland that salt air is not a worry, but the humidity is the same as anywhere around Tampa Bay. From late spring into fall the air stays wet, and afternoon storms roll through most days. Inside the house, that moisture settles on the coolest, dampest surfaces it can find, and in most homes that surface is the shower.

Mildew starts as dark specks in the grout and along the caulk at the bottom of the tub. Cleaned every week, it stays on the surface and wipes off. Left alone through a wet summer, it works down into the grout and the caulk, and a regular wipe no longer lifts it. At that point the bathroom needs a deep clean, with a brush worked along every grout line.

Spring brings a different mess. Valrico has a lot of oak and pine trees. When the oaks let go of their pollen, a yellow dust coats the cars outside and the window sills inside. It rides in on shoes and pets, then settles on door frames and the tops of kitchen cabinets. A damp cloth picks it up, while a dry duster mostly pushes it back into the air and onto the furniture.

When a Valrico house sits empty between owners or between renters, it needs a real clean before the next family carries boxes through the door. An empty house hides nothing. The scuffs where a couch sat against the wall show up, and so does the dust that sat under the beds for years. Most people only notice these things once the furniture is gone.

A moving clean goes after the parts of a house nobody touches while they live in it. That means the inside of kitchen cabinets and drawers, and the baseboards behind where the beds stood. Bathrooms get the same grout work as a deep clean, since the shower is where a landlord or a buyer looks hardest. If you are moving in, this is the best chance you will get to clean the house with nothing in the way.

After the move, regular housekeeping keeps the house where the deep clean left it. A standard clean takes care of the kitchen and bathrooms on every visit, so grease and mildew never get a whole summer to settle in.
