Mango houses need different kinds of cleaning

Mango is an unincorporated part of Hillsborough County, just north of Brandon, with Seffner next door to the east. Its houses come in every age. Older concrete block ranch houses sit on wide, shady lots a few streets from manufactured homes and newer subdivisions off Mango Road. Each of those gets dirty in its own way. So we never walk in with a fixed checklist. We look at the floors and the fixtures first, then plan the clean around what is actually there.

Grime hides in the older block houses. Houses of that age often have aluminum window frames and sliding glass doors, and their tracks fill with sand and dead bugs. The tile grout has usually gone gray over the years as well. A quick pass with a damp cloth leaves most of that in place. On a deep clean we vacuum the tracks out before we wipe them. Grout lines get scrubbed by hand instead of mopped over.

Manufactured homes need a lighter hand. The wall panels and trim can scratch or lift under a stiff brush or a harsh cleaner. So we wipe them gently and test anything stronger on a hidden spot first. Mango weather gets inside your house

Humidity is the weather problem in Mango. The town sits inland, well back from the bay, and for most of the year the air conditioner runs nearly all day. That constant airflow drags dust through the house. It settles on the vent covers and on top of every ceiling fan blade as a gray fuzz. Leave it for a few months and the fan throws it back across the room every time it speeds up.

Bathrooms take the worst of it. In a humid summer a shower never fully dries between uses. Black mildew spots start in the grout lines and along the caulk at the base of the tub. Caught early, they scrub out. Left alone, the mildew grows into the caulk itself. At that point no cleaning removes it, and the caulk has to be cut out and replaced. So on every visit we scrub the shower grout and caulk before the spots spread.

Then there is sand. Yards around Mango sit on sandy soil. It comes in on shoes and on the dog, then settles into the tile and carpet near every door. Mopping a floor with sand on it drags grit across the finish and leaves a dull haze. So we vacuum hard floors before any mop touches them. In late winter and spring the oaks drop yellow pollen on window sills too, and we wipe it off before it gets ground in.

An empty house shows everything. Once the furniture is gone you see the dust lines along the baseboards and the crumbs at the back of every kitchen drawer. A landlord checking the unit, or a buyer on the final walkthrough, notices them too. That is why a moving clean goes further than a regular visit. We open every cabinet and drawer and clean inside, and we wipe down every baseboard in the house.

Moving in is the other half of it. Nobody wants to unpack into a kitchen or a bathroom that still has the last owner's dirt in it.
